Monte Carlo is the easy part. The schedule is the hard part. Deltek's Acumen suite built its reputation on exactly that second part – Acumen Fuse is, for many schedulers, the reference tool for schedule diagnostics – and Acumen Risk sits on that heritage.

If your organization runs federal-style schedule governance – DCMA reviews, IPMDAR submittals, a scheduling department – Acumen belongs on your shortlist. This comparison is for teams deciding whether they need a suite, or an afternoon.

Where Acumen is stronger

Diagnostics depth and enterprise reach. Acumen Fuse checks schedules against metric libraries aligned with DCMA, DOE, GAO, AACE, and NASA standards, and Deltek advertises handling of very large schedules. The suite connects to Deltek Open Plan, Oracle Primavera P6, Microsoft Project (reading .MPP files directly, no MS Project install required), Phoenix, and Asta Powerproject; Acumen Risk & 360 adds integrated cost-and-schedule Monte Carlo plus modeled recovery and acceleration options, with risk-adjusted schedules exportable back to your scheduling tool. As of August 2026 Deltek also markets an AI assistant, Dela, that proposes risks and mitigations. If you need suite-grade governance across a portfolio, that is what it is built for.

Where Epoch SRA is stronger

Fit, transparency, and friction. Epoch SRA runs in Excel – where your register, cost sheets, and reporting already live – rather than as a separate Windows application. The MS Project XML import is honest by contract: whatever cannot be faithfully translated is reported by name, never silently approximated. Priors are field-calibrated against historical program schedules, and every percentile is labelled with its provenance – field-calibrated or model estimate; as of August 2026 we can find no equivalent calibration-provenance claim in Acumen's published material. And everything computes locally, with no cloud component – which is what lets export-controlled and competitively sensitive programs adopt it at all.

The philosophical difference

Acumen is a governance suite: it assumes a scheduling function that owns quality, risk, and submittals as an organizational process. Epoch SRA assumes the person who owns the date.
