Monte Carlo is the easy part. The schedule is the hard part. Oracle's Primavera Risk Analysis (many still call it Pertmaster) has both – it is the enterprise incumbent of this category, and if your organization already runs Primavera P6 with a trained risk team, it is a defensible default.

This comparison is for everyone else: programs that plan in Microsoft Project, keep their register in Excel, and don't have a dedicated risk analyst on staff.

Where Primavera Risk Analysis is stronger

Depth and ecosystem. It integrates natively with P6, handles very large enterprise schedules, supports risk registers, weather modeling, and probabilistic cash flow at a level built for major capital projects. It has decades of production use in oil and gas, construction, and defense. If you run a portfolio of thousand-task schedules with a risk department, it is built for you.

Where Epoch SRA is stronger

Fit and friction. Epoch SRA is an Excel add-in: your schedule imports from MS Project XML, your register imports from the sheet you already keep, and results land next to them in the same workbook. There is no server, no installation project, no training course – the trial takes an afternoon, not a procurement cycle.

The import is honest by contract: whatever cannot be faithfully translated from your file is reported by name, never silently approximated. Percentiles carry provenance – field-calibrated against historical program actuals, or labelled as model estimates. And everything computes locally: for export-controlled programs, there is no cloud conversation to lose.

The philosophical difference

Primavera Risk Analysis assumes an organization: risk analysts, P6 administrators, a process. Epoch SRA assumes a PM with a schedule, a register, and a Tuesday afternoon. Both are legitimate; they are different bets on who does the work.

Oracle does not publish list prices; Primavera Risk Analysis is quote-based and typically lands in the five figures per seat with annual support on top. Epoch SRA is €119/month, €990/year, or €1,300 perpetual plus €350/year maintenance, with a 7-day trial that needs no signup and no sales call.

How to decide

If you have P6, a risk team, and enterprise schedules – get the Oracle quote. If you have MS Project, Excel, and a launch date that costs money when it slips – export your plan to XML and run our trial today.
