Monte Carlo is the easy part. The schedule is the hard part. Intaver's RiskyProject takes both seriously – it is a standalone desktop scheduler with Monte Carlo risk analysis built in, and it is the closest tool to us in price class. That makes this the comparison where the details matter most.

Where RiskyProject is stronger

Standalone breadth at an honest price. RiskyProject Professional is a complete scheduling application in its own right – tasks, links, constraints, resources, cost – so you can run quantitative risk analysis without owning MS Project at all. Its integrated register handles non-schedule risks (quality, reputation, performance) alongside schedule ones, it can run as a toolbar add-in inside MS Project, and the Enterprise edition adds a SQL Server-backed shared portfolio for teams. As of August 2026, Intaver publishes its prices – $685/year for Lite, $979/year for Professional – and the 30-day trial is self-serve. It is a real quantitative tool at a fraction of enterprise cost, and we respect that.

Where Epoch SRA is stronger

Your plan stays your plan. RiskyProject is its own application: the schedule and the analysis live in RiskyProject files, on RiskyProject's scheduling engine. Epoch SRA treats your MS Project plan as the input and your Excel workbook as the workspace – XML in, results next to the register you already keep, nothing replanned in a second tool. Our import is honest by contract: whatever cannot be faithfully translated from your file is reported by name, never silently approximated; as of August 2026 we can find no equivalent import-fidelity report in RiskyProject's published material.

Both tools import a risk register from Excel with column mapping. The difference is what the register maps onto: RiskyProject's distributions are user-defined or chosen from predefined lists, with no published calibration provenance. Epoch SRA's likelihood and severity map onto priors field-calibrated against historical program schedules, and every percentile in the output is labelled with its provenance – field-calibrated or model estimate – so a review board knows which numbers carry evidence.

The philosophical difference

RiskyProject bets you will move your plan into a risk tool. We bet you won't – plans live in MS Project, registers and reporting live in Excel, and the analysis should come to them, computed entirely on your machine.

Pricing

RiskyProject publishes $685/year (Lite) and $979/year (Professional); Enterprise is quote-based. Epoch SRA is €119/month, €990/year, or €1,300 perpetual plus €350/year maintenance – with a 7-day full-featured trial, no signup, no card.

How to decide

If you do not have MS Project and want one desktop tool that does scheduling and risk together, RiskyProject is a fair choice at a fair price. If your plan is already in MS Project and your register is already in Excel, export the XML, run our trial, and read the import report first – it will tell you which bet fits your program.
